• I am at all ends with this problem and really hope someone here can help;

    my site https://www.eurocfo.com is having some very tempermental outages.

    firstly let me confirm a few basics;

    1. The wp-config.php file is exactly as it was two years ago and no database changes have been made.
    2. Our host have confirmed and assured me that their database server is running without any issues.
    3. I use in addition 3 plugins to make the site work, I have disabled these plugins to ensure we don’t have a conflict ion.
    4. WordPress is up-to-date and running the latest version.

    Our host emailed this to us, but If I’m honest, I don’t know where to look or what to look for;

    It appears that the connections are being maxed out to the database which is being shown by the intermittent error message we are getting.

    I would therefore recommend you view the scripts and check to ensure that sessions / connections to the database are terminated instantly to free the connections.

    I noticed that as soon as we restart the application the error disappears due to all the connections being dropped, however shortly lived it comes back when the connection limits are hit which is currently set to 20.

    I appreciate all your help on this matter

    .O

  • You need to check with your hosts again to find the error_log file on the server. That will tell you where it is failing. It is throwing a 500 error in IE.

    I don’t know how your host assumes

    It appears that the connections are being maxed out to the database which is being shown by the intermittent error message we are getting.

    unless they have looked at the server error_log file.

    kmessinger_thanks for your reply.

    is this the log file? [it’s huge, can only paste a fraction]

    [Log file moderated. Please use the pastebin]

    I’d find a new host. They’re being lazy in blaming the problem on you and/or WordPress and without even looking at the logs. 99.9% of the other hosts out there won’t do that.

    I just spoke to the host, they tell me that they can’t produce a log file because the site is hosted on a windows server as apposed to a Linux !

    Is this what it’s come to?

    What should I do?

    What is the traffic on your site like? Are you experiencing a flood of visitors? If so, you should try using a couple of minimization and caching plugins to insulate your site from the traffic.

    If you’re having spammer issues, you may wish to block certain countries or add some additional security.

    If you are experiencing neither of these issues, the problem probably lies with your host. They are either allocating too many users to a database server or there are some heavy users in your shared pool. Either way, that would be for your host to sort out.

    If you’re having one of the first two issues, you can resolve those. If it’s just a host issue, it may be time to look for better hosting arrangements.

    According to our google analytics we get between 15-30 visitors a day. Not really a flood of traffic.

    How can I tell if its a spammer issue? We don’t allow comments on this site.

    The host is really claiming its nothing to do with them. Is there anything I can try to prove this to them?

    Thanks for your replies

    Just move. Livedns.org.uk appears to be the host; they are incompetent and are wasting your time. They’re running Windows IIS 6.0, which is ancient history.
