Pretty but almost entirely unwanted
-
For very basic blog editing Gutenberg would be great. I’ve spent hours training clients on using the edit page/post and I’m sure most of them would much prefer the Gutenberg view……. but for most folks who develop WordPress it seems like a step in the wrong direction. WordPress has evolved into an amazing tool that can be used for a huge range of web apps, with the ignoring of metaboxes which form a major part of these varied web apps I just can’t see how developers will want to move forward with Gutenberg.
Either they need to allow for easy moving between Gutenberg and the standard page editor view, or they need to develop a middle ground version with improved UX but with either scrolling down to the metaboxes or a full width pull out to house them… as stupidly overcomplicated as that would be.
My score is based on the direction of the plugin and not for prettiness and usability (both of which I would enjoy if it didn’t affect get in the way of the most of the website building.).
Review edited down to 1 star as they’ve steamrollered everyone and it’s making life miserable.
