• I have a client that has the current setup:

    domain.com – static html

    blog.domain.com – wordpress

i’ll be moving domain.com over to wordpress to use as a cms, and keeping the blog at blog.domain.com. The client’s main priority is blog.domain.com and having MU setup so he can make blogs for individual clients (example: client1.domain.com).

He want’s it done right now, but it will take some time to design and implement wordpress to domain.com.

Is my best work flow to design and convert domain.com to wordpress, install MU, and then move the posts to the newly created blog.domain.com? Is there a better way to go about it where he can still blog on blog.domain.com?

    any advice would be appreciated.

Hmm. Complicated! First, you DO NOT want to move a multisite unless you have to. Second, MultiSite works BEST in root.

I would build WordPress as a single site install in a subfolder, leaving the extant site and the blog alone. Once that’s done, MOVE from /wordpress/ (or whatever your subfolder is) to the root of your site. THEN turn on multisite, set up subdomains, etc, and make a blog2 subdomain within WordPress.

Export from blog. and import into blog2. Once that’s in and good, then DISABLE blog. and RENAME blog2 to just blog. (I’d rename the blog. folder to blog-old or something)

Make sure it all works, yay, remove the old blog.
