Hi.. Ive just finished up editing manually 80+ pages over the last 2 weeks to updated the rel attributes for all the links.

So your plugin adds the rel attributes “on the fly”? I need to understand how Google reacts to this.

I believed that Google uses their bots to scan my web pages html code and looks for the rel attributes.

Surely if the rel attributes are not set (until a user clicks on a link) in the actual html code then Google cannot see it.

Google are as you know need to see “sponsored” attached to the rel attribute of affiliate links. So am I right in thinking this way?

I genuinely dont know the answer.

I would love to see a plugin that offers check boxes for nofollow, sponsored and open in a new tab (thus adding noreferrer noopener to those links) in the options when you highlight text, and insert a link… same for images too.

    Please help me understand.
    Thanks
    ??
    Shaun

    Hi,

WP External Links is perfectly compatible with Google. It adds the attributes you choose when the page is generated on the server side, not client-side with JS. So as far as Google is concerned those attributes look the same as if you had added them manually to the links ??

Yes, the “sponsored” attribute is for links where you get paid is some way for that you otherwise wouldn’t have added to your website ( ads, sponsored links, affiliate links etc.)

Thanks for replying. Just so it’s clear in my head.. when google crawls my website, area you saying that a crawl generates a page load server side? I wasnt sure as I thought pages only loaded when it was called in a browser.

    Many thanks ??

Yes, the pages are served by the server. So anything that opens your website gets the pages receives them from the server ??
