Interest in new themes?

  • Hi! I’m new to the forum but I’ve used WordPress for a few years now. I’ve created a good number of themes for my own use, though none that I would be willing to release without considerable revision.

    I’m considering developing a few themes for the community, as a way of testing my own skill and giving back to those who helped me start out.

    What themes or theme ideas would you like to see incorporated? Any particular designs that you would like to see in future themes?

    I’m willing to work on derivative projects (to update old themes with proper credit to the original author) or completely new designs, depending on the demand.

  • I’ve been using WordPress for a year or so too and just started learning about theme creation. I’m looking for a photoblog theme that allows some text and is able to handle both landscape and portrait images. I like the Lightbox effect too. For my taste simple is better. I’ve tried several photoblog themes and there’s always something I’m not crazy about.

    So for my taste:
    Photoblog
    Single column
    Variable width
    Landscape or portrait images
    No resizing of images (I want to create the thumbs and the larger image)
    Text capability
    Lightbox/Slimbox/Thickbox capabilty (one of them)
    Neutral colors or easy way to change things
    No Flash
    Simple, simple, simple

    Just some initial thoughts.

    I agree with Tom. We deffinetly need something like that. Photoblog with Lightbox – for free. That would be very interesting 2 see, and
    to use.

    That’s a great list and certainly something I can use.

    Lightbox effects should be easy enough to implement. I’ve used Lightbox and Slimbox numerous times and they are quite easy to integrate. I’ll look into plugin or manual integration options.

    Follow-up questions:
    What would you NOT want to see?
    How simple is simple? Clean or absolutely minimalistic?

    I guess clean would be a better choice of words. The image(s) should be the center of attention not the bells and whistles of the site.

    I’ve been playing around with the Linquist theme at my site Highway 1 Images and I like how it allows text but it seems to resize images which I don’t like. I’m not sure if I like several posts showing like mine or if just the current one showing would be better.

    Gallery capability on a separate page would good too.

    I’ve started work on the new photolog theme (still working on a name). It looks like it will be a little more complicated than I expected, but I’m happy with the preliminary design.

    For those interested, I’ll be updating here and on my blog (https://thoughtlog.cc) when I hit additional milestones with the project.

    I welcome any help or further guidance that may be offered, of course.
