• I am setting up a page for my son and his friend to have a way to communicate interactively, like a chat. I looked into chat plugins but everyone I have tried links to some outside chat room. They are little kids and I want a private place for them. What would be the best way to go about this.

  • Hi there!

Have you checked out the WPMUdev chat plugin?
    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wordpress-chat-plugin-lite/

The link above is to the lite version if you want to try it out, but the full version will probably be more what you are after ??

I will give it a try and get back to you.

OK. I got it on the page but the enter does not work. I have the lite version. Can I add an enter button or do I need the upgrade?

there is an update coming soon I believe.

You shouldn’t need an enter button, hitting Enter should send the text, are you having trouble with that?

    Which browser are you using?

Thanks for being helpful. I use Firefox. Here is a link.

I looked on the plugin site and there are other people with the problem but I have yet to read a solution. There is a strange message at the bottom of the page: “Enter” to send. Place code in between code tags.

I am not sure what this means. I checked the PHP and there are no conditions for writing this that I can find. I can remove the statement but that does not change the fact that when I enter a statement and hit enter nothing happens. Thanks for being the one person to respond to my numerous requests.

Sorry for the delay on this ??

I’ve checked the site and see the “you must be logged in to chat” message.

If you want to toss me a subscriber acct I can check it out, as it seems that registration has been disabled.

Looking at the source of the page and the behavior of the chat I would suggest you check for plugin conflicts.

Disable everything but the chat and see if it is working. If so then reactivate each of the plugins one by one to see which affects it. The chat uses jscript so anything else that is using jscript might be conflicting as well.

I’ve also seen themes conflict with plugins that use jscript. Trying to switch to a default twenty theme is worth a try as well.

    Lemme know what you find!
