Integrating a legacy inventory system
-
Hi Everyone,
I am hoping someone could help me out with this issue here. A few of my clients are car dismantlers that use a dismantler specific inventory management system.
The Goal:
To have the inventory of this system to be on a website with real-time updates. What I mean by this is that by doing an Export/Import, we run into the risk of selling a part in person and having someone else buy it online at the same time.
The goal is to have parts posted online come down once they are sold in person, and to post items online by posting items onto this legacy software. The Problem:
The people that work in this field do not have the greatest skill with computers. They are not willing to change their inventory software. Asking them to do a simple csv export on this software at the end of the day and then import it into wordpress would probably take a whole week to get one person to be able to do it.Some good news:
Although you cannot post your inventory onto your own site, your inventory is somehow reaching their database on https://www.car-part.com. For a $200 extra of course. If you search for a part on car-part.com, everything you see in that inventory is entered into the locally stored software at each store. What I understand so far:
They install the server software onto a single computer. That server computer then hosts shares folders with each user at the store. The client computers are installed with a similar looking client software and have a mapped drive to the server computer. If anyone has a workaround to get this done, I’d REALLY appreciate it. If someone can simply just do it for me, I’ll gladly pay you to do it. I’m just getting a lot of pressure to get this project started..
Thanks in advance!
