For some reason Site Kit does not allow me to connect Search Console to the website. I have permissions to use Search Console from their actual website, but unable to connect to Site Kit. What to do?

    Hi there @heggyy,

Thanks for reaching out. When you mention Site Kit doesn’t allow you to connect to Search Console can you share the full error message you encounter, and at what stage your encounter this notice (ie. when connecting the plugin or when visiting the Site Kit dashboard)?

So here is a screenshot of the plugin showing Search Console is connected.

Many thanks for the update. Are you familiar with the user mentioned in one of your screenshots? If so you could ask them to grant you access from Search Console, with the Google account you used to connect the plugin.

Alternatively, as you’re a site administrator you can disconnect your Google account from Site Kit before then connecting once more. We have instructions on disconnecting your Google account from Site Kit on the plugin website.

That user mentioned there is literally me. I’m not understanding what the hell am I supposed to do? Search Console used to work before, I’m talking like a few months ago, but it’s been buggy ever since I started using it. Randomly disconnects things, constantly having to reconnect stuff etc. It’s all a big ass mess. Bad plugin all-in-all, to be honest and the fact that it says Insufficient permissions when I clearly have all the permissions I need, that’s weird as hell. There is no seemless way of fixing these things.

Sorry to hear of your experience with the plugin. I’d certainly be happy to assist with any other queries or issues you’ve been encountering once we ensure you’re able to get connected successfully, without permission errors.

If the user mentioned is you may I ask you did you connect any module (ie. Analytics or AdSense) using a different Google account to the one used when first connecting the plugin? If so then your Google account would have switched to that Google account. This can result in such permissions notices.

If you disconnect the plugin as previously suggested you can choose the Google account which the plugin will remain connected with. Let me know how you get on with disconnecting your site.

As it’s possible you may have used a different Google account to connect other services you also have the option to reset the plugin. This will disconnect all other connected modules. After setting up the plugin once more you’ll need to use the same Google account to connect any additional modules after Search Console.

Let me know how you get on with disconnecting your Google account or resetting the plugin.

@heggyy Just following up with you to check whether disconnecting the plugin allowed you to proceed?

    Hi,
I just yesterday had to mess around with plugins with resulted in me having to reconnect to the plugin again. Works for now, I’ll see what it does in the future.

Thanks for the update, and hopefully you stay connected. If you’re no longer encountering the permissions notice I’ll close this support topic.

If you happen to become disconnected again feel free to open a support topic and share any error logs or errors you encounter.

@ James: I’m having the same problem with the plugin. Here is the error msg:

    Insufficient permissions in Search Console
Your Google account does not have sufficient permissions for this Search Console property, so you won’t be able to see stats from it on the Site Kit dashboard. This service was originally connected by the administrator “xxx” — you can contact them for more information.

    “xxx” is me, my username.

My Google Analytics account is connected to the same acct. I used for Site Kit. Is there some setting on my Google console I need to change to give the proper permission?

I did recently change my GOogle password. Would that cause a problem?

I visited Google Search Console and noticed I had 2 properties for the same domain. One was verified and the other not. So I removed the unverified property. Then I refreshed the browser page and tried to activate the plugin. I still got the same error.

I did try to reset the plugin as suggested in another thread. But after it asked me to login to Google and I clicked on my Google profile & then “continue,” the next page offered this error: “missing parameter: ‘code’

I fixed my problem by clearing my browser cache. Then I tried activating the plugin again and this time it worked.

    Hi there @richards1052

Thanks for chiming in. Great to hear that you’re now connected, after clearing your browser cache. Interesting also that this error appeared given you did have access to the same Google account. One other possibility where this could occur, along with browser cache related issues, could be that users may be logged into their browser with multiple Google accounts. During Site Kit setup it’s possible that the Google account would default to one particular account when connecting Site Kit.

Regardless if you run into any further issues be sure to reach out by opening a support topic and we’d be happy to assist. Best of luck with your Site Kit enabled site!
