    The validation instructions are confusing
The use of the <your> does not seem to distinguish between client and website owner

The From file instruction in the plugin says that the email should not be the same as the To field but in the example the same email is used for both.

can anyone show me some instructions giving John as the owner of the website and Mary as the client.

Otherwise I have no idea how to validate the form

@sommersjeff [your-name] generally refers to the senders name.

It is good practice to put your own, or better still, the websites email address in the From field like this (change yourdomain.com to the actual domain name of your website) and if you also use [your-name] it will show the senders name in the from part of the email.

    [your-name] <[email protected]>

You will then need to add the senders name and email address as a Reply-To: address in the Additional Headers section like this (this way you can still use the reply in your email programme).

    Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>

@sommersjeff, any luck here? Also finding the same issue confusing and unsure how to meet the criteria.

@davinian, been to your help links. Not so much help. Can you provide further direction what should be listed in the from field. Nothing I am using or finding seems to clear the errors.

Hi, ok this covers all fields.

    1) The To: field needs to be your email address where you what to receive the message.

    2) The From: field is the bit most people get stuck on. To avoid your messages being spammed, it is best to send your messages from an email address that belongs to your website/domain name – NOT the email address of the sender (that should be added as a Reply-To: see step 3 below)

    [your-name] <[email protected]>

Note: change yourdomain.com to the actual domain name of your website (the wordpress@ part is ok to use, you do not need to change that) and if you add [your-name] before the email, the sender name will show in the from part of the email when you receive it.

    3) Add the following to the Additional Headers section — this will allow you to use the Reply button in your email programme to send a reply to the sender.

    Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>

    4) If you set up your forms before the last update, you may also need to add some text to the Subject field – the reason for this is that the Subject box on the form is not a Required filed, some email providers might treat an email with no subject as spam, so adding something like the following will avoid any possible problems.

Message form (put your website name here) [your-subject]

You could also make the Subject a required filed by adding a * and words (required) to the Form part like this.

    <p>Subject (required)<br />
        [text* your-subject] </p>

All the codes in the [brackets] are default CF7 codes, if you have changed any of the codes in the Form section, you will need to make sure you use the same corresponding code in the Mail section.

Hopefully this will help – but let me know if you still have any problems.

My forms have the correct settings, after many hours reading suggestions, but the “Misconfiguration….” message won’t go away, will CF7 team ever address this bug?

@mairag can you post a screen-shot of the Form and Mail tabs?
