    I been trying to switch my wordpress.com blog over to .org for the better part of the day. So much for the 5 minute install. I am having trouble finalizing the install. All the php files have been updated, but I am confused as to what to do about the url +wp-admin/install.php. It doesn’t seem to work with my current url. Is this because I am live on wordpress.com?

    You would need to visit your domain registrar and point your domain’s name servers to your host’s name servers. Might also ask your host for help.

    Can’t I install the .org before the servers are re-directed. I know that it takes 24-48 hours and right now the server names are directed at .com. I need the .com site to still be functional. I kow there are forum links for this I just can’t seem to find them.

    If your host gave you a tempoarary domain address or an IP address you could install WordPress. Talk to your host.

    Thanks, I have talked to my host. The databases are fine when I add the
    wp-admin/install.php the page just goes blank and won’t install

    Typically, a blank screen during install means you didn’t get a complete and intact set of WordPress files uploaded to your host. I’d consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then use something like 7-Zip to extract the files. Then reupload the files to your host. Review Uploading WordPress to a remote host and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

    If you have an .htaccess file, that too could be causing the problem–rename that if necessary.
