• I can’t go past the first step on the installation. After I hit the button, “Continue With Second Step,” the next page I get is:

    405 Method Not Allowed

The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /wordpress/wp-admin/install.php.

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at geekorthodox.net Port 80

With Firefox 1.01, all I see is a text page…like I was viewing the source instead of an actual webpage. Now, I did try to install 1.2 before this, but I was having problems with that one too…but at least on IE, I got all the way to the 3rd step…it just wouldn’t let me log in. But unfortunately, with Firefox (which is my preferred browser), I’m at a standstill.

I have no cookies and my cache has been cleared. My webserver is an UNIX FreeBSD plattform with Apache 1.3 as the webserver and my PHP is 4.21.

    I could use the help….

  • Hi Drex,

I’m not an expert, and I don’t even pretend to be one on TV. Here are a couple of things that could have gone wrong. WP might not be able to access your MySQL setup. Either the username/password combination is wrong (check your wp-config.php file), or the username you supplied does not have privileges to create tables.

Another issue I’ve hit on is cookies. Go through your cookie exceptions file and delete all the cookies for your website, check both “www.yourdomain.com” and “your.domain.com”. BTW, sometimes the cookies are also listed under “https://www.yourdomain.com”.

I can’t help much beyond that, hope you find something works. I do love your site name, wish I’d thought of that.

I just checked both of those, and still nothing works. It’s something else, but I don’t have a clue as to what it is. Any help would be appreciated!
