• Actually it’s version 2.8.6, but that wasn’t a choice.
I did a search to see if this was a post somewhere (using different search terms), but nothing came up

Two problems asked below, but here’s the cause of them:
On the plug in part of my wordpress blog, which is a component of my Joomla website, I went to search the plug ins, but it would default me out of WP and back to the Joomla Control Panel page.

So I thought – I bet my WP version is way out of date. Yes, it was. So I downloaded the Back Up plug in to my desktop, but Googled how to install it manually. Something about servers – I figure my host has that taken care of. They’re pretty big. But I don’t get the instructions and of course the instrauctions for an automated install are clear – and I know how to do that, but then I’m back to the problem of not being able to do the plug in search from WP so I can do it that way.

One – why does searching the plugs in put me back to the Joomla control panel?
Two – aside from that, how do I upload a plug in so I can backup my WP, install the latest WP version, and then add the other plug ins I want?

By the way, if I sound like I know what I’m talking about, I only know the basics. I am not a technical person.
    Thank you for your help.

Thanks, Emi, but that takes me back to where I started. That’s the plug in I wanted to install.

I can’t do an automated back up because I can’t search for plugins. Plug in search sends me back to the Joomla Control Panel.

I need to fix that OR know how to install a plug in manually.

No – that page provides links to a whole stack of ways to backup WordPress – including backing up your database manually.

Oh, I see. That’s too complex for me! Thank you. I was going to back up so I could update so I could search plugins without being kicked back to the Joomla Control Panel.

Do you know why every time I search plugs in on my WP component it sends me back to the main control panel page?

My guess is that Joomla is rewriting all of the incoming urls and creating this problem.

Thanks, Esmi. I’ll go over to a Joomla forum and see what I can find out.
