Installing wordpress publishing system on mapped domain?

    I have mapped an existing custom domain (doodledatabaze.cz) purchased from Czech provider WEB4U and I have set it as primary domain on my databazedoodle.wordpress.com blog. For the purpose of mapping I have updated web4u name servers to wordpress.com servers. But now I want to install wordpress publishing system on the doodledatabaze.cz domain (via FTP), but installation does not work: I uploaded installation files on FTP but I can not run wp-admin/install.php file (instead of installation I just receive “page not found” notification). I am not sure, but I think, that the wordpress installation can not run simply because mapped domain points to different name servers. I would be very grateful for any ideas how to solve this problem.

    I want to use my purchased domain doodletabaze.cz for my wordpress site and I want to install wordpress publishing system on my domain (mainly because I would like to use some wordpress plugins).

  • Have you set up hosting someplace? You’ll have to do that to install the WP.ORG version of WP – and that will be totally separate from any WordPress.COM site. You will also need to set the nameservers for your domain name to your new hosting.

    Perhaps you’re not clear on the differences between WP.COM and WP.ORG – see:

    Thanks a lot for your reply! You are right, I didn′t know about the differences between WP.COM and WP.ORG. I have a hosting for doodledatabaze.cz domain, so I am able to use WP.ORG. But recenetly I have created my blog on WP.COM and mapped the domain doodledatabaze.cz. Now I want to switch from WP.COM to WP.ORG, but I can not run installation. If I am right, it is not possible to run WP.ORG publishing system on the domain, that is mapped on WP.COM? I have tried to set the nameservers for my domain back from wordpress.com to my hosting, but it does not help, I still can not run istallation of WP.ORG. I think it is because the mapped domain is still pointing to wordpress.com servers, no to my hosting servers.

    I am not sure how to solve this problem. Should I unmap my doodledatabaze.cz domain? An if so, how can I unmap it?

    Yes, you will need to undo that – if you set it up on WordPress.COM, sign in to your account there and go to domains. If that’s not working, you’ll need to ask them for help on their forums here:

    BTW, nameserver changes can take a day or two to fully propagate so you may need to be patient for that to happen.

    Thanks a lot for your answers … I am ready to move from WP.COM to WP.ORG ??

    btw user of wp.com can not unmap the domain, according to wp.com forum it has to be done by WP stuff – a little bit user unfriendly but there is certainly some reason for that
