Installing WordPress on an Addon site

  • Hey everybody,
    I’m trying to install WordPress on my new site. I use HostGator for my hosting service and used the same method I’ve used before to install WordPress on my site when I’m creating it, however this time after installing, when i try to go to my WordPress Dashboard for the site, it doesn’t exist.

    I received the confirmation email from WordPress giving me my admin username and password and my admin URL, but the URL link takes me to a site that says it’s under construction.

    This is the first time I’ve tried installing WordPress on an Addon site I added through my main account with HostGator. I don’t know if any of you use that method as well, or if that has anything to do with my problem. But I would really appreciate any help you could give me.

    Please Advise. I’m toally at a loss here. ??

  • Do you mean you installing another wordpress on hostgator addon domain name if so you should have folder for the addon domain name and there may be a index.html file if you post url we can see what page opens.

    Yes, I have installed WordPress on the main domain I have through HostGator and that worked fine. But when I added this new domain on and tried to install WordPress on it, I get this page to come up :

    looks like you have not changed the DNS Name server to point to your hostgator server so your domain name parked.
    Log at your registrar cheapcheapdomainnames.com and change DNS that hostgator gave you.

    Ok, I just went back and set my nameservers to tie the two accounts together. Then I tried to install WordPress again and when I’m going through the installation process it’s saying :

    The installation can not be completed:
    – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

    Am I still doing something wrong?

    you need to install 2nd worpress in folder of addon domain name
    not public_html as that is your primary domain name folder

    I have an addon site allhistoryishere.org.uk under public_html_wordpress

    I put a test index.html file there and it worked. My host is simplexwebs. I then deleted the index.html and uploaded the wordpress package to public_html_wordpress after creating database, user, password and changing the config file. The next stage installation failed. What did I do wrong?

    It might help if you provided the relevant error message that you saw.

    When I visit your website, I see in the URL bar that it re-directs to a suspended page. You may want to contact Host Gator to find out if / why your account has been suspended. Once the suspension is lifted, then you can further troubleshoot your issues.

    We use bluehost and there is actually a button in the panel that allows you to install wordpress on an addon domain. Do you happen to have that same option? Through us it is a simple script installation. What I saw when I looked at your link was a domain that didn’t have it installed yet.

    Below is the message I get when I put in https://allhistoryishere.org.uk/wp-admin/install.php
    Wasn’t too sure about hostname. I put in allhistoryishere.org.uk since that goes in the hostbox when I use filezilla to upload stuff.

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at allhistoryishere.org.uk. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?
    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    OK now I didn’t realise that localhost is just the word to insert in the config file. I thought I needed the name of my localhost.
