• I need help trying to install wordpress on 1and1 as I want my emails hosted with 1and1 and the domain to match (a .co.uk domain)
I am struggling so much, despite following instructions everywhere I can find them.

Does anyone have a definitive answer for how to do this??

thanks for this. The problem i’m having is with point 5 when it says “upload wordpress files” and talks about “root directory”… I have tried uploading using filezilla but can’t even create a directory as it won’t connect…
i have also tried uploading using webspace explorer… I have uploaded wordpress files (with the amended wp.config) and it has created a file with my domain name so I thought it was going to work… but no!!

Any advice?? too many of these support sites just say things like ‘upload’ but people like me need it click by click!!!

    Hi
What webhosting package do you have for 1and1? they start off with Instant Mail then Starter, My Website Personal, My Business etc

I was with these years ago and there customer services wasn’t good and their tutorials are not that good. I moved and now a Reseller of Hosting.

Have you set up Fileziller properly so that it connects to your domain?

If you got web hosting then a FTP username and password was sent in the welcome email when you joined. Do you have this?

    I’ve got 1and1 Unlimited.

I can’t get Filezilla to connect to my domain!!

I have an FTP username and set my own password…

did you change the password given in your email? try using the one they sent in your Welcome email.

In FileZilla. click the “Site Manager” icon, select “New Site” and enter any name for this site, then enter your website address; however, do not enter the “http” and “www” portions of the address — for example, enter “MySite.com,” not “www.MySite.com.” Leave the port as “21” and the server type as “FTP,” but change the “Logontype” option to “Normal.” Enter the FTP username and password that you’ve retrieved from the “FTP Accounts” section in your 1and1 hosting account. Click “Save and Exit.” To establish a connection, click the “Site Manager” icon again, select your website and click “Connect.”

Something I found on the web. If you still get stuck then I could help but you would have to send me some details via email

it is just going to default site though…

You will have to set it back up now as you did on WordPress.com earlier but at least you got it going now.

Just log in and start adding your content and setting it up.

right, i am now logging into wordpress through the admin.php and i think that should complete the process???? i will let you know!!

it should be https://gd-designstyleshire.co.uk/wp-admin if it is installed in the root. Or click on the link in the sidebar on your brand new WordPress website.

    Good Luck

thanks so much. one last question… there is no way to retrieve the site as I designed it before? or do i need to start again with it? (just because i was using suburbia theme but that doesn’t seem to be there now…)

You will have to install your themes, plugins and any other files you had, not sure if you can go back to WordPress.com and back up the pages, content as I never used them before. See if you can log back into your old site but it wont be through you domain name now but through WordPress.com.
