  • Could you elaborate on what you’re trying to do? It sounds like you want to install WordPress itself onto the iPad, but that’s not going to work. WordPress needs to be installed onto a web server. I don’t believe it’s possible to set up a local web server on an iPad, so you’re going to need a web host. Take a look at the getting started guide for more information on setting up WordPress:

I don’t think I am understanding. What is a web host?

I created a domain name through GoDaddy and I believe I am paying for web hosting through GoDaddy. Unsure how to get WordPress and GoDaddy to communicate.

I have downloaded the WordPress app but I cannot edit my blog through the app.

So GoDaddy is your host, and if you have a hosting account with GoDaddy, it would be something like a Linux account with cPanel or a WordPress hosting account, where WordPress already comes pre-installed. The former gives you more flexibility, but there’s a higher learning curve (i.e., you have to learn how to install WordPress on your site), while the latter may be easier for beginners, but may not be flexible enough for you to customize.

In any event, what WordPress app did you install? If it’s something you downloaded from iTunes or Google Play, then I’m thinking it’s an app to build a website on the wordpress.com site instead of a stand-alone www.remarpro.com site.

    Hi,

I′m a total rookie on WP (still going through my first training course) and using a windows laptop for that. I downloaded XAMPP and WP and it works wonderful.

What I think @thenorms means is how can you build a website with WP but using an iPad. And that′s my concern as well as I want to work only with a tablet.

If I′m not mistaken, and from what all of you have said, as there is no XAMPP in AppStore nor GoogleStore, what we should do is to get a hosting service and connect there instead of to our localhost (XAMPP). If we install wordpress there, then we could work by using godaddy.com/yourdomain/wordpress/wp-admin (for example) instead of usgin localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ as now.

Am I totally lost or does it make sense?

If I′m right, then getting the hostimg with WordPress.com would be the easiest path to an easy life ??

@misterbox, yes, that is correct, you wouldn’t be able to build (host) the site locally from an iPad the way you would from a PC or Linux box. However:

If we install wordpress there, then we could work by using godaddy.com/yourdomain/wordpress/wp-admin (for example) instead of usgin localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ as now.

You would need to get a domain name, i.e., your own URL, like yourdomain.com. GoDaddy, or any other host, wouldn’t let you create a subdomain off of their main domain.

Thanks @crouchingbruin!! That confirms that all those blogs I read paid off and I finally got to understand a bit ??

What I′m testing now is using Parallels Access to access my laptop at home from my iPad, kind of remote desktop. Then I can use my local XAMPP on the go.

It comes with a cost but, as everything in life, depending on how much you need the trick it′s worth it.

To jump in in this..I have installed WordPress on my apple laptop. Am I able to build, edit, etc my site using an IPad now? Thanks

Apple touch devices are known to be very restricted, and there’s no way you’d be able to get a WordPress installation. To get it publicly accessible, your iPad would have to have

    a) A static I.P. address, and
    b) You’d need to be able to install web server software, such as Apache HTTP Server or Nginx,
    c) You’d also need access to the internal file system. None of these are possible with a ‘stock’ Apple iPad. You COULD ‘jailbreak’ you iPad to achieve this functionality, but please don’t, look up why yourself…
