Installing on an Intranet

I’m on an intranet and think that blogging software could be a very useful way of making very quick and simple news updates to use within the computer network.

Virtually all instructions I can find for setting up WordPress are assuming that the server is hosted remotely and already has everything such as MySQL and PHP etc installed and set up with a database ready to use.

My question is how do I go about setting up the server ready to use WordPress? I constantly see the word database everywhere on tutorials but not sure what I need to use or do to get one working.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
