• Hi all!

I’m about to renew my friends companys website (https://www.ispotec.fi). The old pages are in /public_html root. However, there’s a subfolder with a working website at /public_html/biokube.fi (https://www.biokube.fi, not created with WordPress). I absolutely do not want to mess up that site (I don’t want to mix up the content of the biokube.fi document root).

So my question is: If I install WordPress to /public_html, will it mess up the website in /public_html/biokube.fi? If not, then I’m allright. If it does, how sould I proceed if I want to create a website and keep the subfolders website intact?

I’ve built one site with WordPress and I’m familiar with installing WordPress via Installatron on a fresh platform, so the installation process itself is not a problem, I think.

    Thousand thanks in advance!

  • Your question is not very clear.

The old pages in public_html are html or wordpress?
If you’ve installed wordpress in your older directory then this will not let you install new wordpress.

You should create a new subdomain or sub directory and install wordpress on it. You should make your site ready on this path and then you can easily migrate to original path….

    Hope will help

    Hi @tonmi,

You could make another sub-directory for your WordPress site, name it as you like (e.g.: ispotec.fi), then follow the same rule that’s used for /public_html/biokube.fi to point to https://www.biokube.fi. (Possibly .htaccess edit) to point /public_html/yor_new_directory/ to https://www.ispotec.fi/

Then you could clear the /public_html/ of all the old html webpages (backup, delete, …)

    Thanks, all.

Atlas_Gondal, the old pages are not created with WordPress.

Let’s assume on my /public_root/ I only have one subfolder (/website.com) including a site made with html. Besides that, the /public_html/ is totally empty.

Now, if I install WordPress to the almost-empty /public_root/, will it ruin the website in /website.com -folder?

I know I could make a new subdirectory and then swap/migrate the main sites, or redirect maybe, but that’s not actually what I’d like to find out.

Thank you to both of you for help!

If you install WordPress to /public_html, it will won’t mess up the website in /public_html/biokube.fi .. just install wordpress in public_html
