Installing on a Mac using MAMP

Please help!

I’m a newbie, so please be easy with the programming-speak, and take me through in baby steps. ??

I’ve been trying all day to install WordPress. I got it up onto my FTP sucessfully, but it is still not working because I’m pretty sure I got the information on the wp-config.php wrong. Still waiting for a call back from my hosting service.

In the meantime, since what I really want to do is just learn how to work with the templates and design a site (and then hire someone else to do the programming), I installed on my Mac. MAMP is runnign fine. But now I’m getting an error message saying WordPress is already installed.

How do I get this fixed so I can use WordPress?
And frankly, what does it look like once I’m in? Is there a default template or something?
