Installing new Theme and whole site crashed

  • I am very new to wordpress and tried to install a new theme and something during download has gone wrong and I can’t even login to my wordpress, I just keep getting a white screen with the error message below…

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare adler_wp_title() (previously declared in /home/lea25088/public_html/wp-content/themes/adler/functions.php:126) in /home/lea25088/public_html/wp-content/themes/adler/inc/extras.php on line 34

    I think I’ve really messed something up… HELP PLEASE ??

  • Try going into the FTP of your web server and going into the wp-contents/themes foler and change the name of the alder folder to say alder2 for example. Tell me if that makes a difference.

    If that fixes it, it’s probably a problem with your theme.

    I tried putting ftp at the beginning of the browser to access it as google tells me that’s how it’s done (haha I’m not great, just learning to build a website) and it says I don’t have access?..

    If you are not familiar with FTP, you can also use the File Manager feature in the control panel (cPanel or similar) of your hosting provider.

    Most Hosting Providers provide a file manager on your CPanel or you could get a FTP Client like FileZilla and you should have a section within your CPanel called FTP Details or something related.

    WordPress already have documentation on use with FTP Clients for both Windows and Mac.

    I have been able to access cPanel but when going into the File Manager and searching within the theme folder in wordpress it only has twentytwelve and twentyeleven as a folder. There is nothing for Alder for me to look to try to change.
