In the sidebar-5.php file I replaced line 44 with this line:

$_shortcode_attr = array_merge( $_shortcode_attr, explode(' ', $shortcode_attr) );

(I added the explode function to change the type string to an array). Now the page seems to load fine. I have no idea if this goes against conventions though or if I have broken something else in the progress..
