Installing Askimet as new plugin

Hi there!

You should see Akismet listed as the first recommended plugin on the /wp-admin/plugin-install.php page of your site. Your New Plugin page should look like this:

It also comes installed with WordPress by default. Do you see it there? What happens when you search for it?

If you’re still having troubles with this, then you’re best option would be to reach out to your host and have them look into it for you. It could be something on their end that’s preventing it from appearing.

Thanks for replying. I have had another look at the site and can see that the host had already installed and activated Askimet, which is why it was not appearing in my search.

@margmacd: Glad it’s already there for you, solving your main issue, but it should still appear in plugin search results, even if installed and activated.

Thanks for bothering to respond Stephane. After sending my last response, I soon discovered on searching for other plugins and noting that Askimet was listed when I selected the tab ‘Popular’ that quite simply, the search system is not operating very well, irrespective of whether or not the plugin is already installed. Sometimes I put an exact plugin name in the search box and the plugin with that name does not appear. However, I have persevered to the end with my list of plugins, as I tried different approaches, such as searching by plugin author. (I have two WordPress sites and I had not experienced this issue with the previous one but I got there in the end without too much trouble.)
