• I have an existing WP site using a common theme. But I want to makeover with a totally new theme. While doing that, I do not want to disturb the existing site.

My plan (for which I am asking your critique) is to install a second version of WP in a new directory (mysite/new.com).

I would then build out the new site on the new theme. Once done, I would run a script to do a global edit to mysite.com.

Any issues or surprises with that method?

    Suggest a better approach?

  • I’d say it would be better to leave the current site alone and just make a copy to your local environment, and work on your new theme there.

Then once you’re done, you can just upload the new theme to the existing site.

Thanks for the response. I realize I left out an element in the plan.

I need to be able to allow the client access to the work in progress. That’s why I am hoping to do it online.
