    Hi, James (MacManX) Sent me a Tutorial on installing Xampp and WordPress I read this (3 Times) I am still not sure, a real sooky la la, as I am really new to all this, so do all the reading I can but this is above me, though I want to do this.James if you do get to read this thank you for sending me the tutorial, but after reading a lot of the installation info I came across Microsoft Web Platform it said to download this and I can download WordPress and all is ok. Is this secure to do this? sounds like lots have done it this way. My next problem is how much memory and space do I need as my computer is 6-8 years old with lots of hard work over this time and not much physical memory (103.41MB) left, virtual memory is at 1.96GB had it to its doc and he can not put any more memory in so some time in the future looks like a new one. it also said I need a Text editor program, not to use Microsoft Word can I download a program from here? maybe I need an idiots guide. many thanks.   • I’m an idiot too. I don’t understand anything, isn’t it enough to have access to an ordinary ftp server? What is a host? I am indeed deeply ignorant…

    Honestly, you may not want to try self-hosting WordPress, and instead use the free wordpress.com blogs. Not everyone has the same technical chops, just like not everyone can draw (you would laugh at my work).

    If you’re going to install WordPress on your own, either onto your web-server or onto your PC, there’s an assumed level of technical savvy. That you know what things are, or how to look them up.

    Can Microsoft Web Platform work? Sure. But be warned, not a lot of people here know how to support it.

    You don’t need to download a text editor. Windows has notepad built in (though I’d suggest NotePad++ instead. it’s free!)

    What’s a host? That’s the people who run your webserver. Like ipstenu.org is on a server run by LiquidWeb, so they’re my host, and when my website goes down, I can call them for help ??

    That sounds like it should be fine, but there’s no way to be sure until you try it.

    Evening James (MacManX), thank you again, I think I am going to try Microsoft Web Platform and see how I go, I dont think I am up to useing the Tutorial may be down the track once I lean a bit more (maybe)Thanks Heaps.Cherie

    Lots of articles for WordPress. The guy that wrote the FastCGI module for IIS which hosts PHP on Windows as well as the WinCache extention for PHP is a heavy WordPress user.
