Installed WP and Uploaded to Dreamhost but Can't Access WP

Hi there,
I am trying to set up a web site via Dreamhost’s ftp product. I installed the product with WPI and have uploaded the files to my directory in root/temporaryftp/mydomainname and I cannot view the welcome page to get started editing. Every time I try to view the config.php file or the install file, it is only code. How do I make this work? I looked at the contents of my config file and all my user data is there already, so I don’t think I need to edit it again.
Thank you for any advice you can offer. I’m not sure how to tell what version of WP I’m using either. ??
