• I have several themes installed, including twenty seventeen, twenty sixteen, twenty fifteen and a twenty seventeen child theme. twenty seventeen is active and is the only theme showing on the “theme” page. There is also a number 1 next to “themes’. I checked on FTP and they are all there. However they do not show up in the back end and I have no way to activate my child theme. I have tried deactivating my plugins but that didn’t work. Any suggestions?

  • Hello @sarawo,
I could see that the parent theme is currently activated on your website. Can you check if the child theme is set up correctly?
Here’s a useful tutorial which will help in the process of setting up the child theme:

thanks for your reply! I will check out the link you posted. But the issue is, I have several other themes installed as well, such as twenty sixteen and twenty fifteen. They are present when I view the site via ftp. But they don’t show up either. I’m wondering why this could be?

    Hello @sarawo
If the other themes aren’t also showing up first make sure that you have uploaded the themes in the right location which is wp-content/themes in your WordPress installation folder.
For example, you need to put the themes files in:
    wp-content/themes/twentyseventeenchild
    wp-content/themes/twentysixteen

    Yes, that’s where they are

Did you ever figure out what the problem is? I’m having the same issue.

I’m having the same issue to and nobody has a resolution

I used google translate to get the answer from Enery88
    He said
The problem that you may have is related to the permissions that the user has with which you upload the files. If the user you use for uploading via FTP is not a user with full permissions, WP will not recognize the uploaded files. This is the case of the themes and plugins uploaded by FTP.

HOWEVER I UPLOADED MY THEMES VIA WORDPRESS

I found the answer on another forum. DELETE BROWSER CACHE
I logged in on another browser and all was fine so the cache clearing worked

“Just wanted to say. My answer was that I had aggressive browser caching setup in nginx.

My solution was to open chrome developer tools(inspect), select network, and disable cache.

I think you can probably do a clear browser or control shift R reload as well.”
