• New to WP and this forum.
I’ve installed WP 4.01 locally using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer (Web PI).
Install went fast and easy as promised.
I was taken to admin site for my first site, and I made some small changes, and they looked promising.
I had to reboot the PC, and now when I try to access my Dashboard, which I’d bookmarked as https://localhost:55122/wp-admin/themes.php, I get “This webpage is not available”.

I re-installed, and again it worked fine. Made small changes, and they did persist. I stopped browser (Chrome, running on Surface Pro 2 with Win 8.1). Restart browser, and can still get to my minimal WP site.
Reboot PC, and again I can’t get to it – ‘This webpage is not available’ again.

It seems like there was some step that got some backend processes (MySql?) running, and I don’t know how to start those again, either manually or to set to autostart.

  • Check the Microsoft Web Platform Installer forum for how to either run your local web server software as a service (so that it restarts on a reboot) or how to start the web server software manually after a system restart. As you have found out, they have to be running in order to access your locally installed WP.

I haven’t found that forum yet, but it occurs to me that I’m not logged in as the admin of my PC. Could that cause some file permission faults that explain my issue?

    Thanks in advance.
