• Hi,

Ok, in simple terms I broke my own website (https://russellsashtanga.info/wp/)

I had upgraded to 2.8.5 from within the WP installation, and later (a few weeks I think) I was using my fantastico log in for all my web spaces to upgrade wordpress from within the websites own control panel (not WordPress). I had forgotton what I had done. So my own stupid fault I know, I shall pick one method of install and not use any other from now on.

Problem is, what mess have I created, and whats the best way forward now?

Im not normally a numskull, but im human ??

    Many thanks in advance

Well it turns out the solution was very simple, at least it seems so. Im just checking here in case there is a side effect of what ive done I need to know about.

I renamed the wp directory to wp_broken
found a wp.zip directory and unzipped it, recreating what I hope is a safe copy before I trashed it.

My website now seems to be working.

Is this the right way to recover?

    many thanks.

Things were slightly messed up on the menu, but upgrading it to wordpress 2.8.5 from the fantastico comntrol panel fixed that.

So the lesson is, a) always know what your doing, lol or b) always use the same method for upgrading.

I hope this ends up being useful to some one ??
