Installed and EM took over site; auto-posting on it's own; 500 server error!

With 100K installs I thought no problem, install on production site. When I did, I could not access the site anymore! In 20 minutes EM posted 100 events, all by itself! Had to get dev guy to rename plugin folder to stop it, because I could no longer access! Using ElegantTheme Vertex theme, fyi.
Very afraid now…
1) What happened?
2) Can I just delete that folder?
