Installed 3.1 and now my widgets don't work!

  • I updated to 3.1 today and my widgets were cleared automatically. I am using RT-Theme 11. Every time I add a widget, it does not save or disappears when you refresh the page. Since my theme is widget based, i have no homepage.

    Any suggestions. I already deleted the theme and re-installed. Same for Wp v3.1.

    I’m stuck until somebody can enlighten me? Please help

    You are going to have to completely delete wordpress (don’t forget to save the files associated with the changes that you’ve made to your theme…and your database as well).

    Then you will need to reinstall wordpress manually by grabbing a copy HERE.

    Before installing wordress via FTP, be sure to modify the config.sample.php to a config.php with your host, db name and user and password.

    that should do the trick. It worked for me. If it doesn’t work. Try the same process with an earlier version of wp and wait for the next stable release before updating.

    You can go into www.remarpro.com and grab an earlier or later copy of wordpress that might not give you the same issues. This is the only solution that I have found to work.

    It will also be wise to do a backup of your database and then delete the database through mysql and reinstall a new database then import your backup database. After that, install a different version of wordpress and then try your widget areas. If it works, go ahead and install your preferred theme and switch to your preferred theme and everything should be good.

    If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what will. Sorry I can’t be of more help to you…this issue is a very tough one that I personally cannot figure out the source of in efforts to completely “solve” it. Good Luck Scott.

    I’m in the same boat. I just installed wordpress 3.2.1 with Fantastico De Luxe on my Hostagtor acct. and It refuses to work!! This is a fresh install !!!! No Plugins-just the Akismet and Hello Dolly it comes with – neither are activated !!
    HERE IS WHATS WRONG:

    in the dashboard – under Appearance

    nothing works in either “widgets”, or “menus” – meaning that clicking on anything on those pages does absolutely nothing-the side menu works, but help, screen options, howdy ***, widgets will not drag, —nothing works!

    This is what I get in the address bar when I click on help or screen options:

    Everything on the other dashboard pages (posts, media, links, etc…all work fine)!

    This is a fresh install! I have tried both of the included themes (twenty eleven 1.2 and twenty ten 1.2)
    I have deleted the wordpress install with fantastico and tried again, nothing works!

    I’ve NEVER had a problem with Fantastico/WordPress before… So Frustrating !!!!!!

    Ok…I just found the reason. I had BPS Pro 5.0 in the root of my acct (same place I know have wordpress). I deleted the wordpress installation and went digging around in the Public_html folder.
    When I uninstalled BPS Pro, I thought it removed all of its files –turns out it didn’t. This acct is just an old one I use to test/develope …stuff. Anyway, there were a few left over BPS Pro files – after I deleted them, everything seems to work!

    Sorry for not being more thorough.
