• Hello, I have a website (www.bjcrystal.co.uk) which I am trying to revamp it, however, when I log in, it requires me to update my wordpress and some plugin, I tried to update it manually with the zip files and it tells me it fails everytime. Can you please give me some help with this?

  • So the WordPress update failed too ! It is still on 3.9.1
What happens when you try and update just the plugin ? OR just the WordPress core ?

Have you checked the support on the plugin page ?
What is the failure message ?

Hello there, my wordpress is still on 3.9.1, and I tried to update automatically/manually or even reinstall it yet stil ldoesnt work.
The plugins cant update as well.
For wordpress the message is “failed to write request to temporary file.”
For the plugins is says “Failed to write request to temporary file”

    I dont know what’s happening =(

You may be out of available disk space on your hosting account. Verify that your account hasn’t reached your maximum allowed storage capacity.

    Thank ClaytonJames for your reply,
Im sorry Im a total newbie to wordpress, how and where can I check whether my account’s storage?

Once you log into your hosting account control panel there should probably be some statistics on how much disk space you have available, vs how much you are currently using. You can also contact your hosts support group and they might be able to tell you if the – “Failed to write request to temporary file” – message is due to disk space or maybe just an issue with directory permissions.

Thanks again for your reply, so in my case, the hosting is godaddy.com, I will need to check it out with them right?

That might be the quickest way to rule out that you don’t have a disk space error or permissions issue, before trouble-shooting any further.

I have a query, that whenever i try to install plugins in my site https://www.movierox.com from add new plugin and while searching for it. Many of the plugins are not found, we have to manually search download and then upload. Why is it so, WordPress should automatically show results at least for free plugins available.

I am curretly awaiting for godaddy’s reply. Actually, I am trying to revamp my cousin’s website, which her hosting is at UK and I am in Hong Kong, would that cause any problems for it? Like the permission of users etc?

Hello Padma9876, it is considered poor etiquet here to put your support questions into an existing thread, with very limited exceptions for problems being so identical that it rarely ever happens. It is also less efficient in getting answers than starting a new and relevantly titled thread.
The short answer for you is that it sounds like an issue with hosting configuration, the web host must be able to write to its own files.

Hello tc0411, if it not a disk quota issue, then it will be a directory permissions problem. Godaddy will be able to help.

The hosting in UK, you access from HK is not an issue, if you can access the site then you will be able to operate it.

    Hello RossMitchell,
Thank you for our reply. I just discussed with my cousin, and she thought of just reseting the whole site. However I can’t find it from her dashboard, and seems like her dashboard is abit different than mine.
Anyways, I can’t find a reset function in her dashboard, do I have to do it manually?

The dashboard will be different due to different theme/version of WordPress.

The file and directory permissions that I would like you to check are not controlled from the dashboard. You need to use either FTP like in Filezilla, or in the file management part of your web hosting management (probably cPanel). There you will find the folder permissions.

    Hello RossMitchell,
Thank for your reply. I am checking around the hosting management part from godaddy, and I don’t see anything reated to folder persimission or whatsoever. Sorry for my ignorance as I am totally a newbis for website building.
