I’m trying to install a duplicator file into localhost. Everything looks great until I click on the final Permalinks, Test Site, etc., to complete the process. At that point the URL bar displays about:com instead of the site name.

When I installed WordPress, the site comes up on localhost in the directory, but after installing the duplicated site with the installer.php file, the site won’t come up. I tried four times with no luck. All my other localhost sites can be accessed, no problem.

I’ve used Duplicator for years and this has never happened, so wondering if it’s some sort of PHP incompatibility from Hostgator to localhost. PHP on my computer is version 4.0.4.1.

    Any insight/advice appreciated ??

  • Hi @celeste1212,

On Step 2 of the installer under advanced options you can disable all plugins at install time. You might try this to see if there is a plugin causing issues at install time.

Let me know if that helps~

    Hi, Cory

    Thanks for the fast response!

I tried what you suggested but it didn’t work. Then I tried installing the Duplicator file on my other computer which has an older version of XAMPP. It did the same thing, got to the end of deployment and then wouldn’t access the site via localhost. I suspect the PHP version on Hostgator, which is where the site was online when I duplicated it, is simply incompatible with the PHP version on my XAMPP programs in my computer. Looks like I’ll need to upgrade PHP.

Again, thank you so much for the help. I’ll follow up if it works; might be a couple of days before I can get to it. ??

    Hi Celeste,

Be sure to also take a look at the installer-log.txt file it will have details of any possible errors it detected during the install process..

    Thanks

    Hi, Cory

Well, I upgraded PHP but now I think the problem is with the MySQL version …?

Now it completely fails connection and gives this message: “In order to avoid database incompatibility issues make sure the database versions between the build and installer servers are as close as possible. … If the versions are too far apart work with your hosting provider to upgrade the MySQL engine on this server.”

    The installer-log.txt file is empty.

I’ve researched upgrading MySQL and can’t seem to find a clean way to do it. I could install a new version of XAMPP, I suppose, but the database export function is exporting an empty file for some strange reason. So I wonder if saving the current xampp/php/data folder would preserve that info. Then I could just import the contents into the new install.

Any thoughts you have on this matter are most welcome. And by the way, if you think Duplicator Pro might help, I’m certainly willing to go that route.

    Thanks ??
