    Hi

    When I’m syncing the products and orders, often when refreshing the site (both our web store and wp-admin), the page automatically goes to the “fresh install wizard” of wordpress (where one can select the language etc). However, sometimes during the sync everything is normal and functioning, and the sync is seemingly progressing. Here is a link to the page that’s showing up.

    But since both the web store and wp-admin is unavailable for some lengths of time during the sync we need to get it fixed.

    We are self-hosted with domeneshop.no, both plugins (WooCommerce and Mailchimp for WooCommerce) are fully updated (3.4.3 and 2.1.9 respectively). If you need any more information please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Hi @eivron, thanks for reaching out and providing the information. On the surface, this sounds like it may be a caching issue. Do you happen to have any plugins or a server-side caching service e.g. Cloudflare running on your site?

    I have WP Super Cache running. I will try to disable it and update this post on what happens. Thanks for the answer!

    Edit: I have disabled WP Super Cache and tried to resync, but the problem is still there, the wizard still pops up regularly. What’s most annoying is that when it happens I’m stuck and can’t do ANYTHING on my site, which obviously is very very frustrating.

    Any news on this? If I don’t get it sorted within a few days (before we go live) I would just have to disable and delete the whole plugin. I can’t risk setting it up after we go live if it keeps taking the whole site down for tens of minutes at a time.

    @eivron sorry for the radio silence on this topic but I have a question for you. When you say “the wizard still pops up regularly” – are you referring to the screenshot that has the WordPress Install screen you originally showed?

    That sounds more like a load balancing issue to me – do you have anything like that configured for your server(s)? Do you have multiple servers?

    Have you deleted the MailChimp plugin – and checked to see if this issue has gone away?

    And no on both counts (unfortunately).

    I have tried deleting the MailChimp plugin, and things works perfectly then. The issue about the wizard is only present when the sync is ongoing.

    @eivron There must be a reason that the screen shows up. I’m going to take a guess that your MySQL database just might be having trouble processing the jobs in the queue – and possibly that’s why the install screen shows up ( because wordpress thinks the DB is not connected ). Are you on a shared host, a dedicated host?

    Have you talked with your host about why this page shows up? I’m sure that they would be able to provide some metrics or limitations that would give us a clue on how and when this happens. Maybe they have a max number of queries per second, or per minute or per day etc that could be getting in the way? It’s hard to say – so please ask them if this is a normal issue.

    Also – one other thing we can try is to disable the web based queue and use the CLI version to see if that calms things down. If you have SSH access we should give that a shot too – it’s certainly worth the effort. ( let us know if you do and we will provide instructions ).

    So, I have talked to my host – I’m on a shared host. The max number of updates per hour are 36 000, which according to them should be more than enough, and if a plugin is trying to do more than these 36 000 something is very wrong about the plugin.

    Other numbers;

    max user connections: 500
    max connections per hour: 36 000
    max queries per hour: 360 000

    I do have ssh access, so we could try that as well.

    @eivron when you say ‘max number of updates’ what exactly do you mean there?

    Yes since you have SSH access – lets give the CLI version a try. I can’t say for sure if this will solve your issue – but it’s certainly worth a try if your host is limiting you in any way.

    1. You must have WP-CLI installed on your server.

    2. You must have a php constant is set in your wp-config file of:
    define("DISABLE_WP_HTTP_WORKER", true);

    3. SSH into your machine – then run:
    /usr/bin/wp --url=$YOUR_DOMAIN_URL --path=/path/to/domain_root/ queue listen

    If you’ve done everything correctly – this process will just run for a while and log things to the console as the jobs get processed. If you see this processing jobs correctly – you’re then clear to set this exact command up as a cron job every minute to assure that it’s running at all times. Not WP-CRON, but a REAL cron job on the server.

    *** one thing to note, is that when you commit to using the CLI version, the jobs will not process unless that command is running – so please make sure the command is working first before adding the cron schedule.

    Hi Ryan,

    Sorry about the late reply, and thank you for your very good help this far. It seems to be working reasonably well (the plugin) at the moment, however, I haven’t tried to sync more times. Would I need to sync again in the foreseeable future (thinking here especially about plugin updates etc)? If that’s not the case then it’s most tempting to leave things as they are now. I do not think that I have enough knowledge to try and do what you wrote over here with SSH.

    @eivron no – you should not have to sync again – unless there was trouble with your data getting into MailChimp the first time – which would be the orders, products, customers etc.

    The original question you had posted here sounded very much like a database load issue or really even a site load issue that typically would not have anything to do with the plugin itself – but it’s really difficult to say what was causing that.

    If you’re not experiencing this anymore – and the plugin is currently on, and syncing your data ( please check your logs for this in the plugin )… I would say we’re good ??

    Feel free to re-open the ticket if you feel that we’re needing to look into anything further.
