Installation of Author Widget Plugins Incompatible with Appearance-Customization

    Is there a widget for displaying the per-post author on a sidebar that is compatible with WP4.0 / Twentyfourteen? I’ve tried numerous ones, even those that say they are but in every case, once the plugin is installed, I get the “The website cannot display the page” (http 500) message instead of the “Customization” page, when I try to go there.

    This appears to actually be a problem with Jetpack plugin.
