  • Hey @beardonabike, how did it fail? Did you get anything? Any error? Just the whitescreen?

Have you contacted you host? It looks like Bluehost?

    I have a similar problem.

Installation failed and now I get this message.

WordPress database error Duplicate key name ‘slug’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_wppa_index ADD KEY slug (slug(20)) made by require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-admin\admin.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-load.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-config.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), call_user_func_array, wppa_setup, dbDelta

Luckily my site is still running but admin has gone. ??

    Good luck Beardonabike.

Terry, when the download failed it said that a file was missing. At that point the admin page looked normal and I closed the window. When I tried to go back to my site and admin page later it was blank.

Humm….You probably don’t have ssh access? There’s only so much you’ll be able to do from here if you can’t access the admin. I’d contact the host and see what they recommend.

I have recovered my site admin by replacing the whole directory with a recent backup. A message came up to say the database had changed. I then just clicked update button.. and all is back . Don’t know where this leaves me though. This could mean I will never be able to update wp again, knowing that if i did it will break my site. Is this the beginning of the end of my wordpress site. I’m worried…

Dont fret @bzerka! All your WordPress site is is a group of files/folders and the database. You can move them around all you like. You seem to have some issue somewhere, and there’s a good chance we’ll be able to figure out what’s wrong.

WordPress is extremely resilient to catastrophic issues, so I think you’ll be fine. If I were you at this stage, I’d setup a test environment to play with the site and see if you can’t isolate/recreate the issue.

On a Mac, use MAMP and on Windows use WAMP. Download your WP files and a database export and see if you can get things up and running locally, then run the update. If it fails, move your wp-content/plugins folder to wp-content/_plugins to see if a plugin is causing you grief.

There’s a lot of troubleshooting you can do yet to get things back to good.

Somewhat like the other contributors to this forum I am having issue logging in to the wp-admin of my site https://www.mypeexam.org I have read all of the advice but unlike everyone else (seemingly) I am immediately confused by the concepts of back up files and config folders. I am just a teacher serving 60,000 students a month with online courses and tasks. I have no idea how to act on any of the advice given. Is there a go to support email or a helpline I can access to gel premed this issue?

    Many thanks.

    James

The last line should have read:

Is there a go-to support email or a helpline I can access to help remedy this issue?

Hey! It looks like your wp-admin works: https://mypeexam.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fmypeexam.org%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

Can you not login there? Even if you reset your password via “Forgot my password?”
