Installation missing style.css error

  • I am trying to install a new theme and am receiving the following error. The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

    Any ideas?

  • What theme is it and where did you get it from?

    Usually this is because the theme is packaged in a zip inside a zip, or convoluted directory structure.

    Check the package by opening it up and seeing whats in there. Some premium themes give you a zip file with:

    Documents
    PSD’s
    Sample Data
    Child/Parent Theme

    Obviously, you only want to install a package that has all the theme files.

    The theme is cleanistic and I downloaded it. I am looking for a responsive theme and just picked this one. If you recommended a similar looking one….please let me know.

    The folder has the following folders in it
    cleanistic
    DOCS
    Fonts
    Plugins
    PSD’s
    XML
    and the file .DS_Store

    I’d suggest looking for themes here:

    Those are all tested to meet WP standards and licensing requirements – and they’re supported on these forums. We don’t have info about themes from other places, so can’t really help with them.
