• I downloaded everything from my previous WP website including all php files and Mysql table into a folder. After 2 years, I run across a big problem when I try to reinstall it. I realize the domain I am using now is not same as the previous one. So I check every php file and change the url, but the website still looks bad. Should I check database also? is there an easy way to install a WP website? Also, can I remove all plugins (they use a lot of space)? After installation, I can add plugins back. Thanks.

  • Hi There!
For this i use the full version of Updraft.
That version has a “migration function”
    Updraft

I guess there is others that can do the migration to, this one has been working perfect for me.

Its just to many changes and to much headache and time to do it manually.

Thanks for your reply. But I couldn’t login to WordPress. I changed wp-config.php and upload mysql. And then at the new website I used new domain.com/previous domain/wp-login.php to try to log in, it always went to previous domain/wp-login.php I can see some parts of previous website now, but I can’t edit it using WordPress. Please help!

I think you have to do a search and replace to remove old domain name and associated references. Replace it with the new name and you should be able to access the WordPress Admin panel.

If it’s still directing you to your old site, I’m sure you still have references in your MySQL table still pointing to it.

Ok sorry about that you could access the old WP.

Yes you have to check your database, like adeline there are changes the needs to be done.

Here is a complete guide on Moving WordPress Manually

Reading that out and using it as a checklist, could help you to make the steps to recover your site.

Check the section: “Changing Your Domain Name and URLs”
