Installation for a MYSQL newbie

    My MySQL database is on a 1 and 1 server – all set up at their end. I installed WordPress as directed. Then when I open the “/wp-admin/install.php” file on the website that I’ve uploaded it to, I get the following error…

    Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /homepages/30/d107253889/htdocs/blog/wp-config.php on line 4

  • Check your wp-config file. Probably during the editing you made a typo…

    Thanks for that. Checked the wp-config file and you’re right, it was a typo on my part. But…now I get the following error …

    Can’t select database

    We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the [my database name as supplied by 1and1] database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?

    If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

    ANyone know how I set up the database on 1and1 if they don’t do it automatically for you ? (I have cookies !)

    DOn’t worry…problem solved…another typo on my “wp-config file”…d’oh !
