I’ve taken over a new hosting customer and tried to add the Wordfence plugin, it will not connect and I get an error:

Wordfence could not register with the Wordfence scanning servers when it activated. You can try to fix this by deactivating Wordfence and then activating it again, so Wordfence will retry registering for you. If you keep seeing this error, it usually means your WordPress server can't connect to our scanning servers, or your wfConfig database table cannot be created to save the key. You can try asking your host to allow your server to connect to noc1.wordfence.com or check the wfConfig database table and database privileges.

My server support says: contact WF as all other 237 packages in your account connect to it.

I try to connect to Wordfence central and get:

    An error occurred
    HTTP 401 received from Wordfence Central: {“errors”:[{“status”:401,”title”:”The server encountered an error processing your request.”,”detail”:””}]}

I’ve deleted the plugin, removed all files in file manager and it still won’t connect.

    Any advice?

    Hi @findanewwebsite

I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and findanewwebsite as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    Hi wfPhil,

    I’ve sent that report.

I can also confirm that we have CREATE TABLES set to be doable for customers by default, so WordPress should be able to do this, and Wordfence by extension.

Could you find out for us from either WordPress or WordFence support how this tool discovers about the MySQL information?

    Hi @findanewwebsite

    Thank you for the update.

    Unfortunately the report didn’t arrive.

If you have at least Wordfence version 7.4.9 installed then you can export a report instead. There will be an EXPORT button at the top of the page to export a diagnostics report text file.

Attach the text file in an email and send to wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com. Add your username findanewwebsite to the email subject field so that I can find it.

Once you have sent the email can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent.

    Hi @findanewwebsite

    Thank you for the update.

I see that these database privileges are disabled in the hosting account and they need to be enabled:

    CREATE
    ALTER
    DROP
    TRUNCATE

You can see this in the MySQL Database version and privileges section on the Tools >> Diagnostics page.

    WF Phil,

Enabled all the above then refreshed the rules manually and it works.

    Thanks
