    Hi,

I attempted to install Yoast SEO on a brand new wordpress instance and received this message.

I have looked at my plugin folder in SiteGround and there is definitely no folder for Yoast SEO already in existence, so I am stumped…

Is the best solution to upload the extracted plugin folder to the /plugins folder?

I may have previously installed another Yoast solution (Duplicate Post) but I doubt that would be a reason?

    Thanks guys!

    Hello @brigadier272,

We apologize for the trouble you are experiencing with our plugin.?This happens when?the plugin is already installed, if a file is missing or corrupt, or if you have renamed the wp-content folder or the wp-content/plugins folder.

From your screenshot, the /wordpress-seo/ folder is for Yoast SEO plugin. For steps on how to resolve this issue, please refer to our knowledge base article.

Hi, The plugin is not already installed and it was a fresh WordPress install. I have not renamed the wp-content folder or the wp-content/plugins folder as you can probably see from the screenshot I’ve posted.

I had previously reviewed the knowledge base, however there is no prior install to delete. Do I just upload the extracted Yoast SEO folder to the /plugins folder?

“If the plugin does not appear in the plugin dashboard, you likely have a missing or corrupt Yoast plugin file. Please delete the Yoast plugin’s folder via FTP and install a fresh copy of Yoast SEO.”

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

Yes, you can upload the extracted Yoast SEO plugin folder to the plugins folder. And also, the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin has a different folder, /duplicate-post/ which won’t affect your Yoast SEO installation.

Let’s know how it turns out after the upload.

Thanks Maybellyne. I’m getting an error ‘File Already Exists’ and a long list of files. It is asking me to overwrite or keep existing?

Yes, please choose to overwrite the existing files with the new uploads.
