Installation errors “Failed to open stream…” WP 2.0 Fresh Install

Hello,

I unzipped the package and edited the wp_config.php as per the instructions.

I got this error when opening install.php in my browser:

Warning: main(/home/ferret/www/wordpress/wp-settings.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ferret/www/wordpress/wp-config.php on line 20

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/home/ferret/www/wordpress/wp-settings.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /home/ferret/www/wordpress/wp-config.php on line 20

My server is Gentoo, using Apache, and MySql and the databases are created and entered in the wp_config.php file.

The path /usr/lib/php would be wrong to look for the file “wp_config.php” in, if that’s what it’s doing? What am I missing or doing wrong here? I have looked in the documentation to try to find the answer to this question, but maybe I have been looking in the wrong places?
