• Hey, I’m trying to install wordpress but I keep getting this error…

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

I’ve done it dozens of times before the same way, but this time it didn’t work for some reason. I’ve triple checked the config file and it’s all correct.

    How can I fix it?

    Thansk

  • Are you sure that localhost is correct?
I know that usually it doesn’t need to be changed, but there is a very popular hosting company that is very cheap that you need to put the actual database address.
    Just a thought,

Thanks Mike, yeah I’m using Hostgator and it’s localhost, the same as I use for all my other sites. Are there any other things that could be causing this?

    Thanks
