    I am using Ubuntu with LAMP and would like to install WP on my localhost. The reason for doing this is because I’d like to practice editing themes (using child themes) without messing up my actual site.

    Does anyone know how to install WP locally? The main problem I’m facing is that WP wants me to create a configuration file. WP is asking me for my MySQL username and password but I don’t have a username/password, at least I don’t know that I do. I do recall, however, installing MySQL when I set up LAMP.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi cessanfrancisco, during the LAMP package install Mysql or whatever database you went with should have asked you to create a username and password for it.

    If you’re on Mysql you could try running this command in the terminal;

    #mysql_secure_installation

    Thanks. I had forgotten that part. Yes, I did setup the password (and I do remember it), but I know didn’t set up a user name.

    It may have setup under root, try root and your password you used.

    Root + password worked!

    Thanks.
