• Hi, I have searched almost everywhere on the Internet but have not found a solution (or at least one that I understood). So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have my main domain – https://www.tanmelvyn.com – hosted with Bluehost. I have installed WordPress on this domain.

Recently I’ve registered another URL (focusonjesus365.com) and have included it as an addon domain in Bluehost.

Now, I have created a Network in my wordpress admin as per instructions here.

Next, I went into my Network Dashboard and created a new site (focusonjesus365.tanmelvyn.com).

This is where I got stuck. I went into cPanel in Bluehost and click on Simple Scripts.
As I get into it, it gives me the options to install or import.

I clicked on import, which then asked me to “select which domain you would like to install to” – and so I chose “https://focusonjesus365.tanmelvyn.com”.

After I click on “Check Domain” it says that “Install directory exists and is not empty. Please confirm that it is safe to overwrite any content in this directory.” I decided to ignore it and check “OOPS! Looks like something already exists there! I understand that continuing will overwrite the files.”

This then took me to “You are almost there! This is the last step”. When I click on “Show advanced options” it gives me the options to insert (1) Site Name or Title, (2) Admin Username, (3) Admin Password, and (4) Admin Email Address.

Initially I used the same Admin Username/Email Address as my WordPress Network Username and Email Address. However, when I am done with the install, it created another single site wordpress admin!

    My question is this:

    • After activating WordPress Network, do I need to do a fresh install of WordPress on the focusonjesus365.tanmelvyn.com?
    • And if yes, how do I do it so that it appears on my WordPress Network and not as a separate wordpress?
      Thank you.

  • If you call BlueHost Support and ask about these things, you might find yourself talking with just the right person. In my own experience, they will all certainly help be sure your pointings are correct, and the ones who are also experienced with specific WordPress matters will typically do their best to also help there even though that is not in their job description.

    That isn’t Multisite.

if you want Multisite, you activate it on tanmelvyn.com (which you did)

    and in WORDPRESS create focusonjesus365

    No fresh install needed.

I think I have something similar and/or I may be totally lost.

I set up https://www.orchidmountain.com as my primary domain and 3 subdomains under that (Heim Chiropractic, PA; Orchid Mist Healing; Doctor’s Orders Art).

Under the Orchid Mountain page, I just wrote a post, basic about. The three subs are where I need the primary information and wanted them as separate WP pages if possible.

    How?

    Thank you!

Hi Ipstenu, thank you for your response.

My apologies, but needed some clarification as I am very new with WP.

You mentioned that I should “activate it on tanmelvyn.com” – this is something I did previously when it was not Multisite (when I only had one domain name).

Now, your advice was to create “focusonjesus365” in WordPress. Do you mean:
    1) Go to Network Admin
    2) Go to Sites
    3) Add New
    – under site address = https://www.tanmelvyn.com/focusonjesus365
    – site title = Focus on Jesus
    – admin email = my email

Now I have another problem. The “Dashboard” for FocusonJesus365 URL is https://www.tanmelvyn.com/focusonjesus365/wp-admin/ but it says that this webpage has a redirect loop.

What did I do wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Okay, so now you get to say “tanmelvyn.com is the main site in my multisite”

https://www.tanmelvyn.com/focusonjesus365 is wrong, though. That’s a REAL folder. I can tell because of what it’s showing me.

    Index of /focusonjesus365

    Parent Directory
    favicon.ico
Apache Server at www.tanmelvyn.com Port 80

Delete the folder. It’s virtual, just like your posts and pages are.
