Install wordpress

I would also want to know how to install it on my pc.Please help.

You do not install WordPress onto you pc computer. It has to be installed on a server with PHP and mySQL capabilities.

There are good reasons to install a copy of WordPress locally.

1 – For testing and backup purposes (I do have a local install).
2 – For a diary or journal that doesn’t necessarily need to be online.

If you are clear on the fact that if you want an online blog, you do need to install it on a hosted server as well, here are the instructions on how to install WordPress on a local computer.

I went through all the steps as recommended by buddha trance, and then got stuck at the bit where it says ‘open the file ‘wp_ config_sample.php’
I opened the file using word pad, and copied the details as suggested, but it would only save as a txt file, rather than with the suffix ‘.php’
Consequently when I opened https://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php in my browser I got an error message saying that there doesn’t seem to be wp_config_php file, and that I should create a configuration file.

What have I done wrong and where do I go from here?

Try to rename the file. Remember to take “-sample” off. The file should be named wp-config.php (dash, not underscore!)

Also to stop notepad from trying to append a .txt to the file when saving the file make sure you type the file name to save as wp-config.php and change the Save As Type to all files

thanks folks – that’s done the trick and I’m up and away for the time being.

This program does NOT have an exe to run after unziping it.

Too much hassel for me, I will just use blogspot.com it works without the hassel, getting my web address was a waste of my money if stuff is such a hassel to get it to work.

6. Installing A WordPress Blog On Your Website
In this step we?re going to install WordPress on our domain. This is actually one of the easier steps, because the program we?re going to use will actually do the installation for us. The first thing you?ll need to do is to log into your Cpanel account by going to https://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Enter your username and password, and click “log in.” Once you?re logged into your Cpanel, you?re going to scroll to the bottom of the page and look for a blue smilie face named “Fantastico”. Also note that some hosting accounts may use the term “Fantastico Deluxe”. This is the same thing. Click on this icon. Once you enter the Fantastico control panel, look for an option on the left column named “Wordpress”, and click on that link. After clicking the WordPress link, on the right you should see a brief description of what WordPress is, and a couple of options to one, indicate if you already have a WordPress installation on your site, or secondly to install a new WordPress installation. You?re going to click the link that says “New installation”. This is going to start the install process for your WordPress blog. On the next screen, there are going to be several fields of information you?re going to need to fill out. The first is going to ask you where you want your blog to be installed. For our example, you?re just going to leave this blank, so that your blog will be installed in your root directory. The next option is to select an admin username. You can choose your username to be whatever you like, anywhere between six and eight characters. It doesn?t really matter; it?s entirely up to you. Next you will need to choose your password for your admin account. I recommend making an at least eight character password, and nothing easy to remember like password or something like that. In the next field, you?re going to enter your admin nickname. This could be your name; this could be anything you want it to be. So if you want to associate the blog with your name, you would put this here. Every time you write a new entry for your blog post, it will list your name there so anyone visiting your blog will see your name. This is up to you, whether you want to use your name or use a pseudo name, or pen name. It?s entirely up to you. The next few fields, you have your admin email. You can enter your personal email address here, which is a good idea. Anything that goes on with the blog will be emailed to this address.
You also want to enter in the next field the site name. For the site name, you can just put whatever the name of your site is. In my case, it would be something like “headachehomeremmedies”, and that would be something I would use for my site
name. I highly recommend you using a word or a keyword phrase that is related to your subject matter. In the last field, you?re going to enter the description, which is roughly a 20-30 word description of your site. It does not have to be elaborate. You can easily put something to the nature of “This site is about blank.”, or whatever your subject matter is. I say 20-30 words, because it?s good to have a description that is keyword rich, meaning it has a lot of keywords in it that are related to your topic. But make sure it is not ?forced? but looks and reads more ?natural.? And you?ll hear me refer to this over and over. Don?t ever try to force keywords. Don?t say “This headache site is about headaches, and people who get headaches.” Always make sure that it?s natural. “This web site discusses natural headache remedies for people suffering from chronic headaches and migraines.” Or something like that. Once you have filled out all those fields, you?re going to click the button that says “Install WordPress” you have one more piece of information to enter. It?s going to provide you with some information about your blog, telling you that a database was created, and it?s going to show you what your username and password is, and all that type of stuff. Instead of writing all that down somewhere, on the second screen, you should see a field that says “Email WordPress installation to”, or “Email installation details to”. And what you want to do is enter your email address here, so that once the WordPress blog is fully installed, it will email you the details. It?ll email you the database and all the information you need to know about your blog. Admin username and all that, which is pretty cool, because you want to have all that information in one place. Once you get that email, you?ll take that information from the email, copy it and save it somewhere that you can remember to find it. And that?s it for installing a WordPress blog.
