• I’m trying to apply for amazon associate program but it requires a website which I don’t have at all. So I’m wondering whether I can use this plugin to populate a website with amazon products first without associate id. Once it’s approved, I will then update the site with the associate Id. If this is doable? If not, any other advise? Thanks and appreciate. I find out this plug in is very useful. I will definitely use it after joining the amazon associate program.

    Thanks.

  • hi Eric,

[since no one has answered i will try it]

well i think that you have to obtain a ID – Just head over to Amazon and get the prerrequisites.
The Plugin is superb – it rocks. And it is worth to get all the additional prerequisites.

If you run into any troubles while setting it up – come back here and let us know.

    we will help you!

    Good luck

    Hi,

To get the most out of the plugin you really need to sign up for the Advertising API, which Amazon have now linked to the Associate account. i.e. You can’t use it until after you have Associate ID.

You can use it without ID’s but only for very limited manual links, it may work for the flash based adverts (Carousel, MP3s, Favorites, iframe links).

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

On the same subject, I am not clear from the documentation whether localisation of the Amazon site links is dependent on putting in an Associate ID. I am using a single-product button, which works fine set up manually with static product information and no Associate ID, but shows no sign of localising.

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi,

Localisation should not rely on the Associate IDs. If the ip2nation database is installed and localisation is enabled then the plugin will attempt to localise all links.

You can test localisation (of the template you are using), by installing the extra plugin ‘Amazon Link Extra – Spoof Locale’ then adding the string ?spoof_locale=fr to any pages URL to spoof the localisation (in this case to France).

    Which template are you using?

    Paul
