Install script not working – directing to old website

  • Hi, I’m attempting to instal wordpress in a folder called NMP that is within my public_html folder.

    My website is https://www.nathanmartell.com

    I do not want to just install it in the root, because I have a pre-existing (non-wordpress) site and want it to be up and running while I am working on my new wordpress site.

    The problem I am having is when I try to run the instal script at https://nathanmartell.com/NMP/wp-admin/install.php it just sends me to my non-wordpress website’s homepage.

    Any ideas what is going on and/or what I can do?

  • Probably a .htaccess file in your main folder that’s redirecting all the requests.

    Thank you, that makes sense!

    What should I do with the .htaccess file though?

    I kind of know my way around, but I don’t want to delete/modify the wrong thing and wreck my existing site.

    It all matters what are the things in the .htaccess file. If you know of nothing important then,

    Just rename the .htaccess file or backup a copy to your PC and delete it.

    If you have problem then can restore the .htaccess file.
