• To whom it may concern,
I have a published fully available to the public WordPress website. I would like to install a brand new WordPress test site to build a replacement website. Before I launch my new website and replace the old one I need to build the site first. I have a subfolder within my current website that I will use to build the test site. I know I need to connect my test site that would be within the subfolder to my cpanel database. My question is how do I create another database within the cpanel and how can I organize it so that the WordPress files connect directly to the test site within the subfolder?

“From what I understand, I should download and install a second version of WordPress in a subdirectory (ex. mydomain.com/test). Is that correct? Does that mean I will have to create a new database in cPanel as well?”

  • Yes – a separate install of WordPress requires it’s own database. You can use the MySQL Database Wizard to create a new database along with a database user & password.
