Install help or advice

    I have spent many, many hours trying to get through this, maybe someone here can help. I have tried posting in the after its running forum, can’t hardly get anyone to respond to problem. I will try to make this as short as I can. First off I installed through a fantastico type installer. All went ok. So I started in on how I wanted to set it up. Quickly found that it would not run the theme that I wanted. Turned out to be an older version, 2.0.? So after reading all the advice on upgrading I ran an upgrade to the latest 2.3.1, all seemed ok until I went into admin, presentation and my themes were not there.ok well something went wrong. So after reading all the doom and gloom errors with the newest 2.3.1 I decided to go back to 2.3.0. I deleted everything, created new database, ect. ran the install for 2.3.0, again everything went ok. Still, no themes in presentation. Did a bunch (hours) of reading and research. Finally figured out there were many CSS errors. Well at this point this stuff is getting over my head, also this is where I was posting question in the after its running forum, no responses. I must be doing something wrong in the install setup or something. So many people on here are master programers, I am far from that. I would try another fresh install, but am I just spinning my wheels? I WP just very unstable to the point you need to be a master programer to get it to work right? Sorry, just frustrated. I am trying to set it up on free web space, I know, less than perfect but want to test before paying for space. Also, will I try to make a buck or two, probly, but not the sole reason. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Not seeing what are you doing and not knowing what the limitations of that free server might be… the best we can do is just guessing.

    The lack of response to your earlier, similar post means that nobody encountered a situation like this or if they did, they are not around the forum.

    Thank you for responding. Your right, in trying to make my post as short as I could i didn’t put in all the research stats that i gathered. Since this is a new install I don’t have anything that needs to be transfered or saved. So it would probly be much easier to just try for a clean install than to track down and fix all the problems. I will try the install for free folks. I have no doubt that if they would do it, they could get it right, my skills are just novice at best. Again, thank you and have a great holiday.

    One more question. What version would you recommend? Is the newest version not quite ready, to many bugs still?

    Not more bugs than any other versions. And defintely the latest is always the safest (security-wise).

    People have issues when upgrading because they don’t read the instructions or don’t follow them.
