Instagram not getting set up
-
I have successfully created app and setup facebook, twitter and linked in, but Instagram is baffling me. I have an account, I created the professional account info, I see the Gatehealing – Instagram in Accounts in the Accounts tab of Meta Account Center (also see it in Profiles). I have input all the account information. When I try to autorize and continue with my Facebook login info, then select Link Account, it takes me to a generic Getting Started page (where I am logged in) but shows me nothing that I see in the directions.
Also, the directions say to look for the burger menu in the upper right of the screen. . . I only see it in the lower left.
-
I found how to get there, but y’all need to update your directions. Lots of things have changed since you published that.
Also, I cannot find my FB OAuth redirect URI in FB settings–it is a blank field, and the yellow banner that was in your setting is now gone since I completed and saved the facebook setup already–the info is not on that page either.

Cannot select Request Advanced Access for Pages_read_engagement without running Test API Call. I cannot find directions to do this, or see if this is a new requirement.
I have done everything I can find. However, on the SMAP Settings > Instagram Settings I can click Authorize, and I get the popup. It says, “You’ve previously linked SMAP Lite to Facebook” . . . I click Continue as… and the box disappears. I hit Save, but the Green Authorize box is still there. I try refreshing, and it’s still there. I try going to a different page, and then coming back, and it’s still saying it needs to be authorized.
So, current 2 issues:
- Cannot select Request Advanced Access for Pages_read_engagement without running Test API Call. I cannot find directions to do this, or see if this is a new requirement.
- I have done everything I can find.
Looks like I have to do #1 to be able to successfully navigate #2?. This does not seem to be addressed in documentation.
Hello @gatehealing,
I wanted to inform you that we have updated our documentation regarding the review and test process for Facebook. You can find the updated documentation at https://help.xyzscripts.com/docs/social-media-auto-publish/faq/how-can-i-create-facebook-application/. We will also be working on updating the documentation for Instagram.
To create a test app for making API requests for each of your apps, please follow these steps:*If you are using your own app (Application selection), you will be able to see a note section describing the redirect URLs.
*If you are using the smapsolutions app, you won’t be able to see that note.
*Ensure that you have selected the required permissions. This will allow you to see your Instagram account and linked page in the pop-up window. You can then select and update them following the step-by-step instructions available at https://help.xyzscripts.com/docs/social-media-auto-publish/faq/how-can-i-use-the-alternate-solution-for-publishing-posts-to-instagram/.Please review these instructions, and if you encounter any issues, feel free to let us know. We are here to help.
Best regards,
AnjaliThanks for the updated info. But to be clear, while I know that Facebook and Instagram are owned by Meta, I am only talking about issues getting Instagram working. I had facebook working just fine but have turned it off and am using another plugin to autopost to that (same with Twitter and LinkedIn, both of which I also had working). I am searching for another plugin to take care of Instagram. Will your instructions help me get Instagram Authorized successfully?
I have already signed up for the approved smapsolutions free trial successfully–I was able to use that to get the facebook etc. working. Just not instagram).

Following the directions (https://help.xyzscripts.com/docs/social-media-auto-publish/faq/how-can-i-use-the-alternate-solution-for-publishing-posts-to-instagram/ ), when I select the smapsolutions option and save, I am NOT redirected to anything.

re: “*Ensure that you have selected the required permissions. This will allow you to see your Instagram account and linked page in the pop-up window.” If you are talking about where I have to ‘request advanced permissions’ this is part of the problem. I am being required to run the Test API thing that I cannot get to work (and that I don’t think I should have to mess with if using the smapsolutions thing, right?)
If you select smapsolutions app , then save the settings and then click on authorize button , this will generate a popup window similar to Facebook flow. Here you have to continue the authorization flow and allow the business accounts and pages with the permissions .
If you are no longer using the facebook authorization using smapsolutions , then try to authorize the instagram account after removing the smap lite app from https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=business_tools&ref=settings
Hope this helps.re: “*Ensure that you have selected the required permissions. This will allow you to see your Instagram account and linked page in the pop-up window.”
The pages and instagram account needs to be selected and also allow the permissions requested in the authorization flow of smapsolutions app as shown in
https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/7.png and https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/6.pngYou said: “If you select smapsolutions app , then save the settings and then click on authorize button , this will generate a popup window similar to Facebook flow. Hope this helps.”I have done this. I get the pop up window, and select Continue with Jonathan, but it closes, then I hit Save, then I try to Authorize (I also tried authorizing then saving). I also tried de-selecting the smapsolutions option in facebook settings and re-saving, then tried the above again. Nothing is working.
Regarding: “The pages and instagram account needs to be selected and also allow the permissions requested in the authorization flow of smapsolutions app as shown in
https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/7.png and https://help.xyzscripts.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/6.png“I cannot even get to those screens. I have never seen them and cannot find them following the directions that y’all have (including the updated ones you linked to earlier).
I must be missing something obvious. It cannot be this difficult.

I found those screenshot settings and everything was checked. The pop-up has been saying that “You’ve previously linked SMAP Lite to Facebook. Would you like to continue with your previous settings?” and I have tried Continuing as Jonathan, and have hit Edit Settings (this is how I found the screenshots you mentioned–and I re-did them and saved.
I still get the same problem. The green button does not change to “reauthorize,” and there is a thin green banner message that says, “You do not have any pages associated with your account.”
When I clicked Manage Authorizations > Instagram, it showed one, but it was marked as Inactive, so I deleted it. Then I tried the process again. Only change is that the banner that says “you do not have any pages associated with your account” is now Red.
When I click Edit from the pop-up, it says “you don’t have any Instagram Professional Accounts linked to a Page.” I am able to find my Professional Page info in instagram, but cannot see how to link anything to anything.
